Hawthorne bush?

Des cenelles d'une aubepine!  Haws from a hawthorn!
Our house in RDP was surrounded by fields which were filled with hawthorn trees.  In French I remember the neighbourhood kids calling them in Quebec slang what sounded like 'des snells". Of course because we don't pronounce some syllables. I learned today for the first time that it's spelled "cenelles" or "senelles". The tree in French is called une Aubepine.

I happened upon one in Parc Plaisance last week-end and decided that I would do some research. I never ate the berries, we used them as ammunition for our slingshots when I was a tween.
